Keertan.Net
From SikhiPedia
Founded in 2001, Keertan.Net originally began in 1995 or 1996 as Kirtan.com. The world's second website to host keertan at any significant scale-following only SikhNet, which had just begun posting Real Audio files of kirtan. Kirtan.com soon grew and joined with amritkeertan.com. A facelift brought the Waheguroo! Search Engine.
Kirtan.com revolutionized kirtan on the internet by hosting kirtan in mp3 files. At that point, mp3 was still in its infancy, many times requiring "uncooking" after download.
In late 1998 or early 1999 Kirtan.com was not renewed on time and was lost to a speculator who now uses it to make money for himself. He had offered to sell the domain back for $10,000, even with the knowledge that the site was run by a non-profit volunteer group.
In 2000, a group of youth joined together to revive the Waheguroo! Search Engine and a kirtan website. Keertan.net was born along with the Waheguroo! Network (originally Waheguroo International Foundation). The Waheguroo! Network quickly grew. Keertan.net was the largest out of a dozen or so kirtan sites on the internet. After 5 or 6 years of prosperity, updates were not that frequent and kirtan site after kirtan site has come online since.
The Waheguroo! Network was dismantled on August 31st, 2008 and all of the sites, including Keertan.net joined a brand new network, the Panthic Network, along with Panthic Weekly.
Keertan.Net is currently on its second revision.
